Caviar bumps. A Moët & Chandon champagne vending machine. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stars as far as the eye can see. Welcome to Kathy Hilton’s annual pajama Christmas party.
I somehow scored an invite to the bash at her Bel Air mansion — a golden ticket I’ve quietly manifested since the first photo of Kathy with her daughters, Paris and Nicky, hit social media years ago. Spoiler: The night lived up to every expectation.
Matching pajamas for all, catered bites, a fully stocked bar and multiple floors of Christmas shopping. The guest list was as sparkly as the decor, with Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Jennie Garth and Bravo mainstays like Sutton Stracke, Denise Richards and Rachel Zoe all in attendance.
When I caught Kathy herself amid the festivities, I asked the obvious question: Why open your home — and let’s be honest, a small winter wonderland — to friends, friends of friends and the occasional stranger like me?
“Well, we know each other,” she smiled. Technically true — we did have dinner once years ago with her husband and Camille Grammer (that story for another day) — but I’m convinced she was being polite. That’s the thing about her — she makes everyone feel like they belong, which is probably why it took me hours to actually get to chat one-on-one with her as the host of the night.
“I just love it,” she said of the tradition. “There are no strangers, really. Friends, friends of friends. I love decorating, and it makes me feel like I get to share it with everyone.”
And share she did. The decor was as jaw-dropping as the rumors promised — the kind of over-the-top holiday glamour that could make even the Grinch believe in Christmas again.
The arrival: Floors of Christmas magic (and one very famous tree)
The festivities officially kicked off at 6 p.m., and walking into Kathy's house in December is like stepping into a snow globe that just happens to have celebrity guests and passed hors d'oeuvres. The first thing you see when you walk in is the tree — yes, the one that fans associate with the Hiltons every holiday season. It’s even more dazzling in person, towering in the foyer like a department store display crossed with a Hallmark movie dream sequence.
When I posted a photo, one of my friends — a Bravo superfan — texted me within seconds: “I recognize those floors.”
The evening was hosted in partnership with Kathy’s daughter, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, and QVC. Their annual pajama party is for the benefit of the Los Angeles Mission, Yogi’s House and Camp Crocker Rescue. About 130 guests attended, and all of them brought toys for donation.
Before the party really got underway, everyone was ushered into a private dressing area to change into their designated PJs from the Printfresh x Kathy Hilton Collection. Guests got to select their style when RSVPing last month: Hollywood Holiday, a blue cotton-poplin set covered in festive icons, or Christmas Carousel, a cozy flannel version fit for an Aspen lodge. I went with the first option — festive but breathable. That turned out to be key once I was schlepping around the giant Hulken goodie bag, which retails for around $168.
Once changed, the crowd spilled into the main rooms — a blur of blue and pink, laughter and clinking glasses — ready to eat, shop and celebrate for a good cause.
Shopping and surprises
The night transformed into a multifloor holiday marketplace — equal parts glamorous and chaotic in the best possible way. Housewives, both literal and figurative, juggled shopping bags in one hand and cocktails in the other.
The first stop? A table stacked with Labubu keychains, the must-have overtaking Christmas wish lists this year. From there, it was sensory overload: a Drybar station for hair extensions (I left with more hair than I arrived with), jewelry displays that sparkled like snow and beauty booths offering everything from serums to scented candles.
One of the biggest crowd magnets was Oh My Mahjong, which set up shop to teach guests the tile-based game currently taking over the country — and probably your group chats. I even spotted Tommy Hilfiger leaning over a board, getting a quick tutorial before grabbing a travel set.
Then there were the “caviar bumps.” Staffers from The Caviar Co. floated through the party wearing chic little contraptions that looked like couture fanny packs, serving spoonfuls of caviar directly onto guests’ hands. The move? Lick it off. Bougie doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Downstairs, the bar was the coziest corner of all, decked in winter florals and napkins printed with Kathy’s immortal RHOBH line, “Who is Hunky Dory?” Guests sipped espresso martinis and whatever else their hearts desired as the music and chatter carried through the house.
The night had some extra sparkle thanks to Bravo timing: the Season 15 trailer of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills dropped just hours before the party — featuring Kathy’s return alongside her sister, Kyle Richards.
Fashion icon-turned-new-cast-member Rachel Zoe was there, as was Stracke. Denise Richards, who makes a cameo in the trailer, attended with her daughter Eloise. Despite her recent and contentious split from Aaron Phypers, she looked relaxed and happy, chatting with Kathy in the living room before leaving as she gave the hostess some kind of Chanel gift. RHOBH alums Camille Grammer, Crystal Kung Minkoff and Faye Resnick rounded out the Beverly Hills roll call.
Which Housewives are on the nice list?
With so many Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stars floating through her Bel Air mansion, it felt only natural to ask Kathy the question on every Bravo fan’s mind: What can we expect from the new season?
“It’s something,” she teased with a knowing grin. “It’s brutal. Well, a lot of the girls are here tonight, so…”
When I joked that maybe her guest list doubled as a hint for who’s on her nice list this year, Kathy didn’t miss a beat. “I, thank God, love everybody. I’m getting along with everybody. I’m a fly on the wall.”
She paused, then added — in classic Kathy fashion — “Let’s put it this way, I’m well known for a nap once in a while. But I was on both trips, to bed the latest and up the earliest, because I did not want to miss any of the scoop.”
Apparently, Kathy’s role this season isn’t just comic relief — she’s also the resident therapist. “I was like a psychologist or whatever, sitting them down, trying to work through it with them,” she said. “One of them would say, ‘Does everybody hate me?’ I said, ‘No, not everybody hates you. I love you.’”
Therapy by Kathy Hilton, coming soon to Bravo, no doubt.
As I headed out, clutching my gift bag and ready for the coziest drive home in my PJ's, I realized Kathy Hilton might be onto something. Maybe the secret to holiday happiness really is matching pajamas, some fun conversation and an open door — even for the occasional stranger she’s “pretty sure she knows.”
